Literatura, historia, filozofia... sami humaniści w zespole. A to dobrze, humaniści to sympatyczni ludzie.

primo - wywiad z Banksem:
HUMO: Nevertheless, there’s an underflow of regret about what you did to others in
‘Our Love to Admire’, your last album.
PB: “Naturally, I hurt people, the Big Way. Badly. And of course I feel guilty about that. But
life is a learning process. The record is no apology. There’s one song on it that could be
interpreted as a way to say sorry, but to someone I’ve never met.”
HUMO: The actress in ‘The Heinrich Maneuver’!
PB: “No. I’m talking about the first track on the record (‘Pioneer to the Falls’, ed.). It’s a very
personal song, even though it’s about someone I’ve never met before. It’s pretty obvious who
it is, but nobody seems to come up with it. Think about it very hard.”
About Pioneer, don't forget the girl's murder in NYC. The night she died, she was going from The Pioneer to The Falls (2 bars).
I don't say it's the person he is talking about but, maybe it's a reference. Nonetheless that's quite a huge coincidence.
I kilka innych ciekawych adresatów.

June, a gdzie Twoja ciekawostka?

Gang of New York
Paul Banks, singer and guitarist of Interpol, talks about the shows in Brazil in the following month and about the comparisons to Joy Division.
What's the difference between the third record, Our Love To Admire, and the other two records?
It is more sophisticated, more challeging. Early on, we would write a tune with Carlos [Dengler] on bass and then we would incorporate the keyboards. This time we worked straight on the keyboards, what brought out a more voluptuous sound. But on stage the energy is the same. However, I think everybody notices the difference when we switch from an old song to a new one.
What do you expect from brazillian audience?
I have a brother who's married to a brazillian woman. I heard that Brazil is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. I hope it will be very wild. If I have time, I want to know the beaches. I love beach, hot climate; I think I will feel at home.
What's the part that Joy Division has in your sound?
The biggest influence is in the way Carlos plays the bass. He's a big fan of Joy Division and New Order. I've never been. I like them, but I've listened to them less than the other things that influenced me. I don't see any trouble when they say we resemble Joy Division, but nobody knows what really are my influences.
And what are they?
So many. When we started the band, it was John Frusciante, Sebadoh, amongst others. When I was becoming a musician, R.E.M., Nirvana, Pixies.
To teraz niech będzie gorąco w czasie openera.

Interviewer: Are u Lazy?
Paul: Yeah, i can't relax. But sometimes I have periods where everything feels like it is to much for me... and because of that i feel like I can't do anything.
then he talks about the period before antics where he rented an appartement to write his lyrics for antics. And that he lived together with his girlfriend. That he tries to be a good person and tries not to hurt anybody
Then he talks about Pioneer to the falls: He says: The song is very personally and it's about saying sorry to someone, but that someone i have never met... If u think about it, it makes sense and u know about who I'm talking about.
Paul: Admirering something is like fuel but it is also very close to jealousy. but it is productive because it motivates you.
Interviewer: when did u have this feeling?
Paul: When I first saw the strokes. Interpol played already a lot off shows but we didn't come off the ground and whammm, the strokes came out of nowhere becoming famous... but no it isn't because they had welthy parents and so... no they were just good and I wanted that too
so I said goodbye to my shitty dayjob and committed to music. And I worked my ass off but never copied anything that would be bad...
!!!! AND NOW A VERY INTERESTING BIT:
Interviewer: A journalist from NME, who hates you all, tries to create a vete between interpol and editors. The journalist from NME said something about calling the ghost of Ian curits at a show from interpol and editors and the gost had to say: U all owe me money, u fucking one-dimensional copying goth-fags. Aren''t u tired of the joy-division comparisons?
Paul: I have passion from me own and I have stories to tell myself but yeah the criticism gets to me, it sticks on the group u know...
In oour first 5 years we were never compared to JD and then came turn on the bright lights and whamm. It bottered me a lot... it even bittered me . but u know live is short enough and i m confident and old enough to say: screw u guys.
Interviewer: U 're british, doesn't it hurt u that a british magazine wrights these things about u?
P: Yeah my parents are british but i've always felt american. but: I didn't felt at home in the states but excatly I feel nowhere at home.
So fucking myself up about the editors and some jackass british journalist... it is just ballast and living normal just takes alot of enery. The only thing that drives me is, to express myself as good possible. To deliver good work. Our fans don't care what a stupid journalist write but they will forget us if we write bad songs.
Paul: I become angry if someone takes something of me away of which I find that it is of me. My time, for example. Then I react nearly immediate: Leave me alone, I don't owe u shit. Or if someone tries to obtain me under in a conversation. Or if a woman tries to manipulate me. There I have very little patience with. Because I have pride: I am disgusted of the idea that a another shows no respect for me as a human.
Interviewer: and as an artist?
BANKS: I like to make beautiful things , but without interpol I couldn't share them with anybody. I have tons of work lying in my room that nobody ever will hear. Because I do not have the impulse to say : listen and look at me! Others in the group have ensured that we have obtained a labelcontract and that I sit here now. Wonderful, but i make money and i can do what i like to do.
We are here only for a little while, and our existence has no sense. therefore you must give a sense to it , and in my case that is: creating things. Totally useless things that helps no step to humanity, but that for me accidentally justify my existence. Really: only creating something unique can , something that never ever existed , find I valuable. All other human activity is in my eyes not more higher than what animals do. That sounds perhaps egoistic, but I find it altruistic: I want make the world a better place. To show that there are things worth living for.
Interviewer: as fans say that a certain song helped them or ment something to them, take you still the time to listen to them?
BANKS: Yeah people often say beautiful things to me. Ifor that I always take the time, because I gfeel for this reason. It's beautiful. Look, the most beautiful feeling that music can give you is physical of natural. shivers down your spine.. listen to a song and wait till your favoriete passage comes: you become entirely excited, and then come that passage at last, and the chemicals rush through your brain... if someone you come to tell you that he gets that feeling of your music: that's the point. That is for which I am present in this group. I get that feeling when we write togehter with our four. Therefore I do it even for myself.
Interviewer: What about giving your music for commercial porpuses?
BANKS: we take all decisions with us all together: I can therefore impossible guarantee you that we will never do that . But I can say that I would vote radically against. u knwo recently They have sold the catalogue of nirvana . I had been obsessed by that group, : that music has changed my life. If you see then playing a commercial for videogame with a nirvana-song in the background: I got a little sick. And I am an adult dude of twenty-nine, no kid of fifteen, thus you can see. That sickening feeling I do not want to put on our fans.
HUMO: especially on older group-photographs u seem to put yourself away behind a disguise: cap, dark aviators, big scarf. As if you did not liked to be photographed.
BANKS: that was also the case. And...: I was fat back then, and alcoholic. I was a fat alcoholic . I wanted to hide myself, because I felt myself really bad. And it is present in my character. I more liketo give pleasure to people by means of their headphones then a beautiful picture to look at.
HUMO: but interpol is just a particularly pleasant group to look at.
BANKS: I would want that we were invisibly, but that is not possible unfortunately. And I carry out my pride in everything what I do, therefore also in my clothes. I don't dress like a schmuck. Not on the podium, and not. I want in fact... that boasted hollywood actresses call me and say: Please take me out, because I want you.' that kinfd of glory. But I don;t want to be in tabloids evrywhere and be recognised by everybody. I want it all, except being glased at.
HUMO: That brings us to Kurt Cobain. Anti-rockster pre-eminently.
BANKS: what can I say? He was my idol. I have tried never to imitate him, let that be clear. He was rockstar against wants and thanks, you read that in every interview. Whereas he shouted everything what he did: look at me! What he reached in a short time, just amazing- u try and overlive that. I just thought: two, three plates, . ' Bleach ' weas fantastic, and afterwards ' Nevermind ' and ' in Utero ', and then that s it. The mania has lasted at most two years. Insane. And concerning whole world . For Kurt Cobain it was a terribly overwhelming experience, which he could come to terms with very with difficulty. No: respect.
Humo: Drummer Sam is of Sicilian origin, he ‘s the “heathead” of Interpol, right?
Paul: He gets angry all the fucking time. He reacts instantly on everything. I am at least as edgy as he is. Only I keep it inside myself. I don’t belief in astrologics but I have red that a bull, my astrologic sign, only loses his patiences once in 4, 5 years, but then it’s really on. Then nobody can hold me back.
Humo: Interpol Consists of 4 obvious caracters, are u friends?
Paul: DEFENITLY NOT ( hmmm okay :s) I don’t belief in a conflictmodel but unfortanetly it works on us. That is not ideal because I don’t like arguing. Dan en Carlos don’t either.
Sam doesn’t mind. We are all very obstinate. You will never here one of us say ( with Forest gump-style voice) This is probably stupid. No everybody says: I’m right! And after a lot of
Conflicts we find a solution.
What keeps us together is our respect for eachother. I work with 3 geniuses: Even if my own idea doesn’t make it, I know something right is coming along. I feel privileged because with idiots I don’t have patience.
Humo: In the past, did u listen to aggressive music to canalise your anger?
Paul: I listened a lot to Suicidal tendencies and Nirvana of course. But I never headbanged to it or break stuff. I don’t know why not, I still listen to aggressive music. Trans Am, Death from above 1979, Battles, QOTSA, For me Rock has to be heavy.
Humo: The new single “mammoth”even contains some “drone”
Paul: Yeah, it is one of the hardest song we made so far, and for us a favourite to play live. Vocals are fun to do, it has a guitar solo and in the outra we totally rock out.
Humo: In all fired up , the devil is speaking, right? But since tenacious D that makes us laugh
Paul: Yeah, but either way it is satanic. But also very enthousiastic. I don’t like to write one-dimensional songs.
Greed:
Banks: Material possession doesn’t mean anything to me. When I was little, our house burnt down. We moved a lot when I was young. From England to the Vs, with passages in spain and mexico. If you have to leave everything behind, possessions don’t seem so important anymore. I don’t have a big house, no expensive car… The only thing I’m devoted to is my work. Imagine that my harddisk is stolen, it would be tragic. Ah well, if I write 6 or 7 months the damage would be made up.
Humo: “ Our love to admire” is your first cd for a big label, capitol.
And you want to reach as many people as possible with your music, and the labelcompany wants the same but for other reasons… Doesn’t that make you cynical?
Paul: No, because nobody was there with us in the studio, en nobody said you have to change this or that. You hear stories about executives who come to the studio and say: this is a a single and that not. But from “our love to admire”, the ecutives only heared it for the first time when it was completely finished.
And we play nowadays in big stadions in stead of small venues, but that does us also some good. On our least tour, some fans couldn’t come see us because we were sold out pretty fast.
Humo: Producer of OLTA, rick costey, He worked with Muse, the stadion-band of the moment, Did that make u choose for him?
Paul: Probably I was the only one in the band who wanted costey for his work with muse.
The others had it more for his work with Mars volta and so. But I heared the muse records en knew: that is an interesting sound for us. Musically I find them very good. That dude is a virtuoso musician. Seeing muse in a stadion is like seeing slash, If a was fifteen years younger I would love it. It is a big spectacle.
Gluttony:
Humo: This is the first time we interview you without having a glass of beer or other alcoholic drink in front of you. Did you quit on the booz?
Paul: You could say I drink less then I used to.What can I say: I have an addicted personality, on all kind of stuff.
Humo: My friends they come and the lines they go by. rest my chemistry. Did there any realism sneek in to your lyrics?
Paul: That was the purpose of it, I don’t want to write always in the same way and I don’t want people to think when they hear my work: wtf is he talking about.
I loved the line: rest my chemistry, it s like a joke. It could be like an anti- drug campagne for kids. Say no to drugs! Alcohol and drugs changes the chemicals of your brains. So rest your chemistry means: give your brains some rest, don’t devoid your live all the time to drugs and liquor. That kind of greed can destroy you mentally. But in that song I layed the emphasis on the physical effects.
Humo: while mental and physical go together?
Paul: Yes, with your body, your mind also goes to waste.
Impurity:
Paul: In this part we have to discuss the forbidden lusts. Very sinful. You don’t lust after a married woman. That’s not okay, really not. Just occupied, that can be okay. But if I meet an attractive lady but she is married or in a relationship with some who I respect, then I turn a button in my head. Those women become sisters to me. I don’t see them as sexual beings but they re like guys to me. And I can do that without a lot energy.
Humo: Do you sit as a rockstar in the epicentre of your lust?
Paul: Yes, but it isn’t as decadent as some people believe it is, Not with us , We aren’t Kings of leon, those fucking guys get all the chicks.
Off course you have to realise: There are some hearts being broken. Sometimes u know u gonna hurt the other but you wanna still go on with your ideas and afterwards don't give a shit about the mess u made. that's just not ok. I did some of that stuff , lots actually. But i learned from it , But I am a man, and i have my needs . It isn't my fault that i don't feel those emotional connections that the other does feel. But do have to stay alone forever because of that, untill i find true love? No! I have to learn. Learn no to expect impossible things. or just to stay away. or to say no.
chandra totalna, na chandrę Interpol najlepszy

mmm, moze to, ze Kessler spedza teraz urlop we Włoszech?
edit. to skoro juz mowa o ciekawostkach, to mnie zawsze interesowal fragment rozmowy telefonicznej ( a raczej nagrania z automatycznej sekretarki ) z Mind Over Time.
na IMB znalzlam to:
has anyone tried to transcribe the phone conversation in this song? I thought it was a msg on Pauls answering machine from someone else in response to a break up or arguement. He says "im sorry it didnt work out" etc.
Any comments?
i odpowiedz:
its just a a guy leaving a message because they were supposed to see each other over the holidays to record or something but it didnt work out so he is gonna see him after the holidays
i think
no to podbijam. any comments?[/i]
